Thanks Eli for the lesson. I know you have always said in previous videos the best way to learn is to listen and watch. I have always found learning songs from Tab time consuming. As eventually you have to commit to memory anyway , learning a bar or two at a time. In way this is a quicker this way and not have use tab as a crutch. So thank you for these ideas. And will try and learn this way in the future.

Please someone help me For the love of god I can’t make the d chord. My fingers are short. Input my middle finger on the 3rd string of the second fret but my index can’t fully go down on the second string first fret.

I started playing the banjo at 12 without a teacher because I live in France, where the banjo is a very rare instrument. I had to learn on my own, thanks to the Internet and especially thanks to your RUclips channel, along with Banjo Ben's, Ricky Meir's, HBD's channels and many others. After 10 years of playing Bluegrass banjo, I recently learned the stunning "Revenge of the Tentacle Dragon" by Béla Fleck and can now play it. This achievement fills me with immense pride, and my progress would have been impossible without excellent instructors like you. Thank you for all your hard work and for the invaluable service you provide to young banjo players around the world. I love our small banjo community. Greetings from France!! I've been trying for a while, and I still can't finger the "11" on the 2nd string only, but I've found that if I don't worry about whether I'm touching the 1st string, and I lift my finger immediately after that "11", I can then play the "9" on the first string, and it doesn't sound too bad, plus I get a head start on moving my little finger to "10". Of course, Eli's fingering it cleanly and moving his finger after the "9", and hopefully I'll be able to do this eventually.

Great lesson - but I am a little confused by the metronome demonstration at about 2:50. Eli says he is playing FMB at 60 BPM. He is subdividing the beats into four parts - basically, playing sixteenth notes. But in the tab he created for FMB - and for most tabs I’ve seen - it’s in eighth notes. He’s playing two measures of FMB (per his own tabs) for every measure the metronome counts. Seems like 120 BPM - not 60. Is this a banjo thing, or was I perhaps not paying attention in music class?

I’m having trouble going from the first part to the slide. Anyone have any tips for that?

when I was a kid learning Scruggs' stuff I got to a point I could tell say like if he was hitting the first string open, or the second string on the third fret. or third string on the 7th, I just got to a point I could tell by the tone of his banjo! my God that was 60 years ago! lol

I'm surprised at how fast I was able to pick it up thanks to your videos. at first, I thought you had too many instructional videos, now I don't think you have enough! My son and daughter love the song Southern Nights by Glen Campbell, can you make an instructional video on that song? and a shout out to my daughter Nyla Isabel? i might be the only mexican to play the banjo btw lol. thank you senor!

Hi Eli, Bought a banjo at an auction on April 29. I went day for day with you until day 25. Those finger patterns got me though. So I stopped there until I could reasonably move from G to C and back while still practicing the two songs. It's June 14. I did 26 through 30 these last couple of days only to find that I can pretty much play that whole some without difficulty. I can play the banjo, dude!!!! And it's thanks to you. I can't thank you enough for your great work. You rock!

There is just something Eli isn't telling us about how to make our playing sound like his in the beginning. If someone is able to figure it out and share I would be very appreciative.
